Session: On Demand
Room: Virtual Video Presentation
Presentation Type:Virtual Presentation
This study explores how participation in cultural and creative activities shapes experiences of identity and belonging among Chinese diaspora youth in Barcelona. Focusing on everyday cultural participation, including community events, creative practices, language activities, and social interactions in urban spaces, the research examines how young people negotiate cultural identity and emotional belonging within transnational contexts. The study approaches Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) as forms of cultural infrastructure that influence access to participation, representation, and social connection in multicultural cities. Using qualitative methods, including interviews and participant observation, the research investigates how diaspora youth engage with both local and transnational cultural environments in Barcelona. The paper argues that cultural participation plays an important role in building community, sustaining identity, and creating a sense of belonging among young people living between cultures.
