Dramatized Reading: The Unknown Soldier by Gloria Montero

War seems an integral part of human history. Who starts them? Who fights them? And why? There are monuments all over the world dedicated to ‘The Unknown Soldier’, fallen soldiers who remain unidentified, but are honoured through these sites. But who were these soldiers, and what did they do? This theatre text allows one soldier to tell his story and answer these questions. His specific war, the Spanish Civil War as it is known, has often been referred to as the last romantic war, due to its being the last major war to not use technological warfare: the Second World War that followed, and all major wars since, have been fought with advanced technological arms, changing both the nature and methods in which warfare is waged.. What has not changed, however, are what wars leave behind them: the personal questions, the losses, and the scars they leave on the people involved.
